An unexpected reunion, a pile of donated sheet music, and a side order of curiosity: Ensemble Clazzic was founded. The ideal starting point for the ensemble turned out to be composed jazz in combination with classical ideas, with which Claude Bolling (piano & composition) and Jean-Pierre Rampal (flute) won a Grammy in 1975. Subsequently, the newly founded Ensemble Clazzic emancipated itself from Bolling’s music, which was still strongly rooted in traditional swing, preferring new, multifaceted and progressive rhythms, which from then on characterized the Ensemble’s repertoire. The desire for tailormade, more complex works quickly developed, based on the language of great role models such as Chick Corea or Michel Camillo.
